Am vergangenen Wochenende konnten die Ladies der Capitals beide Spiele in Hamburg für sich entscheiden. Während beim ersten Spiel anfänglich alles noch nicht so rund lief und die Knights sogar zwischenzeitlich mit 10:2 in Führung gehen konnten, packten unsere Damen ihre Schläger aus und glichen auf 10:10 aus. Ein Wechselbad der Gefühle mit einem Spielstand von 13:13 nach regulärer Spielzeit. Im Extra Inning konnten sie aber noch mal ihre Schlagkraft unter Beweis stellen und auf 18:13 erhöhen. Ein weiterer Run der Hamburgerinnen führte dann zum 18:14, wobei es dann aber auch bleiben sollte. Das war eine sagenhafte Teamleistung, unsere Mädels haben fest an sich geglaubt und das Gefühl dieses Spiel zu drehen und zu gewinnen war toll!
Das zweite Spiel mit Colette Robert als Pitcherin wurde mit Ten-Run-Rule vorzeitig beendet, der finale Spielstand 13:2. Somit wurde das gesetzte Ziel, sich für die Playoffs zu qualifizieren, vorzeitig erreicht. Die Knights haben jetzt keine Möglichkeit mehr an den Capitals in der Tabelle vorbei zu ziehen, egal wie die letzten drei Spieltage für die Capitals ausgehen. Die Caps Ladies haben sich damit ihren 7. und 8. Sieg dieser Saison erspielt und haben erneut gezeigt, wie stark sie sein können. Auch die Coaches waren sichtlich zufrieden mit dem Siegeswillen und Kampfgeist, den das gesamte Team in diesem Krimi gezeigt hat!
Nachdem die direkte Konkurrenz, die Mannheim Tornados, am letzten Spieltag in Tübingen gesplittet hat, sind die Bonner Damen jetzt nur noch ein Spiel hinter dem Tabellendritten aus Mannheim. Beide Teams haben noch drei Spieltage vor sich und der Ausgang der letzten drei Doubleheader wird über die Gegner im Viertelfinale der Deutschen Meisterschaft entscheiden.
Blick in die Zukunft: Der Tabellenvierte der Bundesliga Nord wird nach jetzigem Stand gegen den Tabellenersten Freising spielen. Da aber auch die Grizzlies noch drei Doubleheader vor sich haben, muss jetzt erst einmal der Ausgang dieser Partien abgewartet werden. Während in den Playoffs im Viertelfinale eine Best of 3 Serie gespielt wird, wird ab dem Halbfinale Best of 5 gespielt. Jedes Team, das aus den Playoffs ausscheidet, spielt im Anschluss noch im Deutschlandpokal. Das Team, das nach allen regulären Spielen im Norden dritter wird, wird mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit in Regensburg gegen die Regensburg Legionäre spielen. Da aber noch einige Spiele offen sind, wo alles passieren kann, konzentrieren sich die Capitals jetzt erst einmal auf ihre nächsten drei Gegner. Die letzten beiden Heimspieltage finden am 11.08. gegen Hamburg und am 18.08. gegen Karlsruhe statt. Die Mädels freuen sich, wie immer, über lautstarke Unterstützung. Dieses Wochenende spielen die Damen in Tübingen bei den Hawks. Die Hawks spielen dieses Jahr ihre erste Bundesligasaison, haben sich jedoch mit mehreren ausländischen Spielern verstärkt und dürfen auf keinen Fall unterschätzt werden. Natürlich möchten die Caps auch an diesem Spieltag zwei Siege einfahren, aber die Gegner aus Tübingen werden es ihnen nicht leicht machen! Wir freuen uns auf zwei spannende Spiele!!!

The lady Capitals secured their spot in the playoffs within the Northern Germany conference this last Sunday in a double header sweep against the Hamburg Knights. One of multiple goals set at the beginning of the season, this feat is a spectacular one, as the Bonn Capitals softball team has only competed at the top tier Bundesliga level for two seasons. With this goal now met, it will be exciting to see how many more goals these ladies will tackle for the remainder of the season.
In game one, the knights jumped to an early lead of 10-2 off base hits and errors by the Capitals. After a pitching change, the Capitals broke out their bats and began a bombardment of base hits, tying up the score 10-10 by the fifth inning. After back to back battles by both teams, the score was 13-13 at the end of the seventh. However, it was the lady Caps who came out victorious, scoring five more runs answered by one from the opponent in the international tie breaker inning to finish the Hamburg Knights 18-14. The strength and fight that our girls showed within such a high scoring game was the true spirit of the lady Caps, and we hope to carry it all the way through to playoffs soon to come.
In game two, led by the American pitcher Colette Robert was ended quickly, as the wind from the Knights sails had been taken from them after the first game. The capitals made quick work this time around, scoring 13 runs in four innings to close out the series with a 13-2 win. With this final win, the capitals captured the sought-after playoff spot, securing the spot above the Hamburg Knights, regardless of the outcome of the next three games while receiving their 7th and 8th win of the year.
While the Capitals and Knights were battling it out, the Mannheim tornados split the day against Tubingen, narrowing the gap between the Capitals and the Tornados to one game. With the difference between the 3 spot and the 4 spot in rankings shortened, the Capitals have a chance of jumping up one spot, depending on the outcome of the last three regular season double header games. The placement of the ranking will decide the opponents to be faced in the quarter finals of the German Championship.
The German Championship will be
broken down into the quarter finals, semifinals, and the remaining two teams will
face off for the German Cup. In the quarter finals, the teams will play a best
of 3 series, while the semifinals will be a best of 5 series of games. For now,
the Lady Capitals are focusing on their next three opponents, taking it one
game at a time. There will be home games coming up August 11th
against Hamburg and August 18th against Karlsruhe. As always, any
and all support is appreciated and encouraged.
Coming up this weekend, the
Capitals will be playing against the Tubingen hawks in Tubingen. This is the
first Bundesliga season for the Hawks, however they have recruited and brought
in several foreign players and will not be overlooked. The lady Caps are
preparing to continue their success through the weekend, and look forward to
what’s to come.
